The Municipality of Mexico has a total land area of 11,761 hectares.
About 9,821.78 hectares is used for agriculture while 26.94 hectares is declared as industrial and 38.27 hectares is commercial.
The municipal administration however plans to allocate 522 hectares of agricultural land for reclassification, which is about 4.44 % of the total area, to address the growing demand for urban uses north of the town.
